About OutsideSmart

Smart outdoor projects you build yourself. No cloud, no subscription.

What this site is

OutsideSmart publishes build guides for small, low-voltage outdoor projects: coop automation, garden sensors, wildlife cameras and solar power. Every project is meant to run locally, without a cloud account, an app or a subscription.

How we write a guide

  • Each guide shows its build status at the top. If we have not built and tested a project ourselves yet, the guide says so.
  • Guides are based on datasheets and documented builds.
  • Every guide has safety notes. We cover low-voltage (12 V DC) builds only.
  • We show one total cost range per project, not prices per part, because part prices change too often.

Use our guides at your own risk

Our guides are general information, not professional advice. Always follow the datasheets and instructions of the parts you use and any local rules, and stop if you are unsure. The build status at the top of each guide tells you whether we have built the project ourselves. We work hard to keep guides accurate, but parts change and we cannot guarantee that a guide is complete or error-free. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage caused by building or using a project from this site. Nothing in this notice limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

How this site is funded

Paid links, when they appear in a parts list, are marked as such. They never decide which parts go in a list.
